NHP continually researches new technology, the new applications of existing technologies, and the latest research with consensus of the medical community. Assessment of new technology will be applicable in assessing and making determinations on individual cases.

Due to the large amount of research and information that is generated and must be reviewed, NHP has chosen and approved the use of Knowledge Library as the main source of technology assessment.

A new technology assessment request is reviewed by the UM Committee, where researched information and the Hayes technology assessment is presented to the committee customers for discussion and recommendations. The decision of the committee regarding coverage and appropriate application on the new technology is documented in the meeting minutes and forwarded to the Quality Improvement Committee (QIC).

Committee decisions are forwarded to the UM staff, delegated entities, involved providers, and the customer, as applicable.
